Though it has made me concerned about what quests in other regions I need to get done so they don't autocomplete themselves. Anyway, I just accepted that it was gonna autocomplete and moved on with the game. yet it didn't tell me the actual gas quest was complete til I entered the plane later in the John quest.
I also noticed one time that when I loaded my pre-John confrontation game it spawned me in Falls End and I glimpsed in the top of the screen that it marked me as completing both gas trucks, which I hadn't. Update: I think when you get the prompt to meet John for the showdown, if you approach the church the entire world goes into this altered mode where nothing spawns, that's why you can't find any trucks. I must have spent 2 hours on this quest with no success now.
I managed to deliver one but for the second I resorted to traveling to Faith's region, found one there and drove it back but the game doesn't recognize it. I have maxed out the resistance points in the area but have not confronted John.
